About Peace Lutheran
📖 Our Story
Peace Lutheran Church was founded in 1880 by members who separated from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Flatville. The congregation first worshiped in a small wooden building.
After a devastating fire destroyed that building in 1947, the faithful community rallied and rebuilt the current brick sanctuary, completing it in 1948 at 200 W Arnold in Thomasboro.
We are a proud member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS).
✝ What We Believe
We confess the Lutheran faith as revealed in Holy Scripture and summarized in the Book of Concord.
- Grace Alone – We are saved by God's grace, not our works.
- Faith Alone – We receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Scripture Alone – The Bible is our final authority for faith and life.
Our mission: "Making Followers of Jesus Who Make an Impact for Jesus."

As an LCMS congregation, we hold to the historic Christian faith, centered on the cross of Christ. We believe in the real presence of Christ in the Sacrament, the importance of catechesis, and the priesthood of all believers.

About Our Pastor
Rev. Michael Stoerger
Senior Pastor · Peace Lutheran Church, Thomasboro, IL
📖 Education & Ordination
Rev. Michael Stoerger is a 2006 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. He was ordained into the pastoral office in Hannibal, Missouri on July 9, 2006.
He received his Associate Degree from Parkland College in 1990 and his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois in 1992. Upon completion of his college, Pastor Stoerger worked in the Agriculture industry for ten years. He entered Concordia Seminary in 2002, from which he received his Master of Divinity degree. His year of vicarage (internship) was spent at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
⛪ Pastoral Service
In July of 2006 he became the pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church and School in Hannibal, Missouri where he served for almost eleven years. During this time Pastor Stoerger served on various committees of the English District, including serving as the Chairman of the District Stewardship Board for four years and serving as the Circuit Visitor of the St. Louis Circuit for eight years.
In March of 2017 he was installed as pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Woodworth (Milford), Illinois and has served our Lord there until he accepted the call to Peace Lutheran Church in Thomasboro, Illinois.
In February of 2026, Peace Lutheran entered into a dual-parish agreement with St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sadorus, Illinois. Since that time, Pastor Stoerger officially serves both congregations.
👨👩👧👦 Family
Pastor Stoerger is the son of Loretta Stoerger and the late William Stoerger of Sadorus, Illinois. He has two sisters: Diann Moore of Watseka, Illinois and Martha Michael of Millstadt, Illinois.
Pastor Stoerger was married to Lisa R. Stoerger on March 7, 1992. They have been blessed with a beautiful family:

Pastor Stoerger and Lisa are blessed that their entire family lives in and around Fisher and are all members here at Peace Lutheran Church.

Our Youth Group provides a safe and welcoming space for teens to grow in their faith, build friendships, and serve the community.

🌸 LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League)
The LWML is a group of women dedicated to serving the Lord through mission work, fellowship, and supporting the church.

✝️ LCMS Youth Conference 2025
In July 2025, members of our Youth Group traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the LCMS Youth Gathering — a life-changing week of faith, fellowship, and service.
Together with thousands of Lutheran youth from across the country, our students participated in daily worship, Bible study, service projects, and team-building activities. They grew in their faith, made new friends, and experienced the bigger picture of what it means to be part of the body of Christ.
The theme, "In All Things," reminded us that Christ is present in every moment of our lives — in worship, in service, in laughter, and in community.

We meet the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 am.
(Except for January, June & July)
Our meetings open with a Bible study and a short business meeting, then we close with light refreshments and fellowship.

🌴 What an Adventure! 🌴
This summer, our kids embarked on an incredible journey at Tropical Trek VBS — four days filled with laughter, discovery, and faith. Through games, music, crafts, and Bible stories, we learned that no matter what life brings, we can always trust in God's love and guidance.
The joy was contagious, the friendships were real, and the Gospel was shared in meaningful, memorable ways. Thank you to everyone who made this week so special!
